According to Teil Duncan, cows and nudes are great subjects to consider how color, shape, layers and composition come together in a painting. “I like to take realistic forms and break them down into shapes, exaggerating or substituting color by playing with light and shadow,” she explains. Duncan switches between oil and acrylic paint, preferring the former for flexibility of application and the latter for the vibrant colors it offers.
Duncan studied art at Auburn University, where she learned a great deal about artistic styles and techniques. Painting full time proved to be the best education of all. Based in Charleston, S.C., Duncan maintains a successful career as an artist, showing her work online, in her studio and at galleries throughout the southeastern United States.
