Pamela Munson always knew she wanted to start her own brand. Her great-grandfather started a multigenerational printing company, so entrepreneurism is certainly in her blood. With over a decade of experience working for major fashion brands and retailers like CHANEL, Oscar de la Renta, and Bergdorf Goodman, Pamela gained significant experience in the fashion world. Needless to say, she never stopped fantasizing about going out on her own.
In 2017, Pamela diverged from a traditional corporate path and set out to pursue her true passion of launching her straw accessories line, Pamela Munson. Drawing inspiration from childhood travels and her grandmother’s ever-present straw handbags, she hopes that her classic creations evoke stories and memories for every woman who wears them. We caught up with Pamela on all things motherhood, style, and design. We are thrilled to feature her, and to carry a selection of her beautiful collection on our site.

“ My grandmother always wore a straw handbag with an orchid in her hair. For years, I felt like this type of ‘elegant resort style’ wasn’t out there at an accessible price point. Having my first daughter, Beatrix, really pushed me to pursue my passions and break from a traditional corporate path and pursue my business idea. ”
Advice for Women Working in Fashion
“ You will encounter many colorful personalities and work styles. There can be a lot of noise and fluff and drama, and tedious, ‘unglamorous’ aspects of the job. Be willing to put in the time, keep an open mind, and maintain good relationships. Roll up your sleeves and help out whether it’s in your department or another area. As an employer, what impresses me most is a positive attitude, taking initiative and a strong work ethic. ”

What are your essentials when designing your bags?
When designing a collection, it usually begins with a singular idea - a pearl, a floral or a specific silhouette - and evolves from there. I love seeing how a collection unfolds with its many layers and textures; it’s like putting together a puzzle. Most of the bags I design are rooted in the past with vintage elements. I want to design a handbag you will have in your closet for more than one season that’s classic and everlasting.
What do you hope Pamela Munson bags evoke for your customers?
I hope our handbags evoke special memories. It’s amazing how a straw handbag can connect you to a moment in time.
If you could buy three things from the Tuckernuck website, what would they be and why?
You have the best dress edit of any website! I always look to Tuckernuck when I need a dress refresh and love the ease of dresses for spring / summer. My espresso gingham dress is so perfect for now and transitional dressing, and works for the school run or dinner with my husband. Also loving the bright florals from Borgo De Nor – I would take any one!
How would you describe your personal style?
Who are your personal style icons?
My personal style is classic with a twist and hasn’t deviated much since college. It’s rooted in timeless pieces - feminine blouses, cigarette pants, pearls, great denim, cashmere cable knits, Tretorns, Chanel ballet flats, and Belgian loafers. I love to make it feel new with accessories - a great bag or jewelry. My style icons are Princess Diana, Grace Kelly, and Jackie Kennedy Onassis. Modern day style goddess would be Lauren Santo Domingo.
What is your idea of #tuckernucking and finding the fun in life?
With three children and a business, you have to find the fun in life otherwise I would be crying all the time. Haha! Delight in simple pleasures and remain grateful.
